The important lesson to take away is just how fast countries at the  
top dropped off that list (e.g. China) and just how fast other  
countries rose to the top of the list after being mired at the bottom  
for a long time (e.g. UK, US).  Granted that some of that change was  
relative, but it still shows the rate at which economies can  
radically shift in just a matter of several decades.  Yet people  
continue to doubt the possibilities of relatively unfettered economics.

The modern world is that magnified.
