Yesterday I spotted a "Christianity for Dummies" book, and while mentally projecting the word "is" into the title - I'm easily amused - I had a quick look at it (I had a lot of time to kill waiting for a flight), and spotted a section about atheism.

The author actually said that atheism was a faith-based position because atheists "Believe there is no god".

No wonder people get confused about atheism, when they read misrepresentations like this in books.  I wasn't sure whether it was a deliberate lie, or whether the author genuinely didn't get it.  Is it really so difficult to understand the distinction between "I believe X is untrue" and "I don't have any belief about X"?
