I read it as a parody of the High Holy Meat Worshipers too, it may not be 
great literature but for some reason it's just about the only parody of a 
particularly target rich subject. Damn I wish I were a better writer.

George Orwell's Animal Farm is sleight of hand because in reality animals 
can't talk.
