Well, it has sort of woken up. Just not in the direction of AI.

It has gone more in the direction of telepathy for humans.
Instant, always available communication.
The Cloud, Wi-fi, Google, Facebook, Twitter, chat, texting, Skype,
email, Buzz, RSS feeds, etc.

So far, though, this ideal seems to be mainly a swamp of trivia and
gossip, a distraction from any real achievments. But that might
change.
