That's true, but fish oil capsules don't come from whales.  They come 
from (usually) menhaden, and (sometimes) anchovies or sardines.

If you're interested, you can look up the relative methylmercury levels 
of various commercial fish and shellfish here:

Not surprisingly, the higher up the food chain a fish is and the 
longer-lived it is, the more methylmercury it contains (as a general 
rule).  Toxins bioaccumulate.

The reason sperm whales are so full of poison is that they're huge, 
long-lived filter feeders: they strain the ocean for decades at a time 
(their lifespan is basically the same as a human's).  Little plankton 
feeders like menhaden, anchovies, and sardines don't live more than a 
couple-few years.
