That question is beginning to get more attention.
What will the developed countries do with all the low skilled people?
Soon they won't even be required to fight in wars.

The robots *are* coming for their jobs.

I can see the 0.1% rich living in gated estates and on tropical
islands while there are cities of people living near subsistence
level. The guard robots will protect the rich. And the rich may feel
that paying a small tax (as a proportion of their huge income) to
support the rest of the population is a justified expense. (To keep
the people quiet).

If entertainment, drugs and social activities are available with
sufficient basic income to live on, the people probably could be
mostly happy with that deal. And the poor cities can run their own
basic services like police, hospitals, etc. to provide minimal
services.

Might turn out OK.
