Just for clarification -
The Hawaii protest is not just about a few religious fundamentalists.
It is the flashpoint for a political protest about righting the wrongs
perceived to have been done to the Hawaiian people.

Quote:
Much of the opposition has tapped into deep-seated grievances tied to
the U.S.-backed overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom in 1893, clashes
over water and land rights, and frustrations over tourism and the
exploitation of Hawaiian culture.
-----------

This is similar to battles by Native Americans to preserve ancestral
lands, with high-profile protests like Dakota Access pipeline leading
to arrests in southern North Dakota in 2016.

The problem is created by the way that the USA treats indigenous
peoples that it encounters.
