That's a good question. Would an advanced AI make jokes?
Or do we want just a problem-solving processor?
I think an AI would have to be very advanced to try to use humour as a
human bonding / persuasion mechanism. There would be a big risk of AI
jokes offending the human or just being meaningless. The AI would need
a great understanding of human society to be able to be a good
comedian. The chatbots today can repeat simple hard-coded
non-offensive jokes, but that is not real humour.
If humans discover that the AI might be 'joking' or lying or making up
stories, it will lead to humans distrusting the new AIs.
After the AI fires off all the nuclear missiles to destroy humanity, could
it say, 'Sorry, just joking!' and wink?
