Subject: Re: [ExI] AI Model Collapse
Indeed, some discovered this "no backup" thing during Hurricane Helene last fall. Once some stores began to open again, they only accepted cash
- no way to deal with cards. The banks opened but would only allow a certain low amount of cash withdrawal. I was very glad to have water, food, and cash on hand - but I'm *old* and that is "old school" prep.
That hurricane was *localized destruction* - I cannot see living through a full largescale such thing - like an EMP or bombing of major data centers.
We did not have potable water for... a month?
Regards,
MB
Oy vey, MB, we are so glad you are safe. We had no idea you went thru that. So sorry, and glad it is well now.
We have cheerfully devoured every change in the way we do trading, so delightfully convenient, so secure, so good. Until... it breaks, then we see how brittle it is. And we see how difficult it is to get everything running again.
I used the term brittle rather than fragile for a reason. It conveys the notion that it shatters into small pieces, which slows down everything else, breaking other pieces of our trade system. When that is broken, there are almost immediate consequences due to lack of necessities as you and the other Helene survivors discovered. No lesson was learned I fear. Most people will not make an emergency plan nor have the necessities on hand.
As an instructor of an emergency preparedness course and I am appalled at how little real understanding there is of the subject.
