I disagree. Viruses are self-replicating systems, they just need other self
replicators as context. M. genitalium is a bacterium, yet is difficult to
culture, as it requires a *rich* complex medium. Are cyanobacteria not
cheating, requiring an atmosphere with lots of water and a balmy temperature
region? Are the only self-replicators those, who can feed on raw congealed
star drek?
While technically true, that's a very purist approach.
