On the other hand, the fact socialism (or even communism) has proved
disastrous in the past doesn't mean that it would be disastrous with a
transhuman population.  The reason it has failed has been succinctly
summed up as "it goes against human nature," but the whole point of
transhumanism is to change what it means to be human.  Whether it would be
desirable to modify your personality to fit in with a communal system of
living is obviously a matter of individual tastes, and it shouldn't be
forced on people, but just because that kind of system hasn't worked out
in the past with unaltered humans doesn't mean that it will forever be
unworkable.
