One way to deal with this is to pose the question "What if we
are in a simulation?"  The Matrix series makes it much easier
to pose this and papers & comments by Nick Bostrom and Robert
Freitas provide reasonable academic background that may support
that concept.  If we *are* in a simulation you can force the
theists back into the position that "yes" we are in a
manufactured universe -- but it is one created as either
a scientific experiment or a playtoy.  Probably will not
make most people operating on pure "faith" very happy.
