Fascinating, thanks David. I have heard it suggested that
the SATs were intentionally altered in order to defeat the
exact analysis that we are suggesting. GRE scores would
not be a valid comparison because it only applies to
collegians, and not even all of those but rather
those who were graduate school bound.
Regarding the invalidity of SAT data since 1995, this will
not matter for this study, for the median age of voters is
probably late thirties to early forties, so median age
voters would have taken the SAT back in the early to mid
1980s. We should be able to get our grubby paws on that data
somewhere, then compare to Avant's voter data. I would
speculate that red states would do quite respectably in
average SAT scores from the mid 80s. But I could be
wrong.
