Well I must admit I pulled down my copy of the Australian first edition
of "The Spike" and looked at the publication date as I was typing the
post, but other than that, the "1997" number is a pure coincidence :-)

And of course unless the reviewer misunderstood the book, "Radical 
Evolution"
is much weaker than "The Spike." I intend to go read it, but I'm not 
optimistic.
