Hold the paranoia!
It was a mistake on my part using an updated version of mailwasher with 
a heuristic add-on.
For some reason it does that to other ExI list members for no 
discernable reason despite my filter that marks anything with 
[extropy-chat] in the subject line as OK. Sometimes maybe a space is 
missing in the subject line or something.
