Agreed with pretty much everything Keith says here, with an addendum: I
think even using current situations as examples in broader discussions is,
where possible, better eschewed in favor of historical examples. As a
general guideline, I'd recommend taking examples from at least a few decades
back. (Eliezer Yudkowsky, when the question came up over on SL4, suggested
1920 or earlier.)
