Well, say we have voted for a very wealth-destroying idea---
for example, giving every man, woman, and child ten thousand
dollars from the public treasury. As much as I would vociferously
denounce the idea, surely you don't expect me to forego my share
on principle?  The net effect of such misguided "principled"
behavior is that the perceptive (and principled) would be 
singled out for punishment!

In other words, though we are opposed to government handouts,
if those handouts were authorized by due process then we, our
friends, and our families are just as entitled to them as anyone.
