You might check NASA's Space Settlement Design Study (available
on-line via Google or del.icio.us/jay.dugger) for descriptions of the
space environment with respect to solar power satellites (SPS).
The following thoughts also come to mind.
Will photovoltaics degrade in-orbit and by what mechanism? Radiation?
Corrosion? Impact?
Do you assume SPS based on photovoltaics? Is that really a good model?
What about using sunlight to heat a working fluid for a generator?
