You are entirely wrong. We most certainly can deduce consciousness from considering behavior alone because there is a HUGE amount of evidence in support of that idea, there is a HUGE amount of evidence that evolution is true. There is a certain breed of philosopher who acts as if there has been no advance in science since Aristotle and just by pondering in his armchair can come to a conclusion that he insists is correct even though there is a mountain of experimental evidence showing that he cannot be. This is the sort of thing that gives philosophy a bad name.

Either Searle was wrong or Darwin was, it's as simple as that. There is not the smallest particle of hard evidence in support of Searle but there is an enormous amount in favor of evolution. Searle doesn't dispute this, he just ignores Darwin and what is probably the single best idea that any human being ever had, as do you.
