Italy, gave Iraq some loan of some 20 billion of $ (never returned)
using the Atlanta chapter of BNL. At the time the head of the BNL was
Mr. Nerio Nesi, that was a socialist later turned communist.
This was discovered before the first war of the Gulf, before the
invasion of Kuwait. And the people responsible for this (a guy named
Charles Drogul) was jailed.

The US supported Iraq only to prevent Iran from winning the war.
In fact, they retracted their support as soon as the war ceased.
And, for your informations, when the war was going too well for Saddam,
the US gave them false intelligence so they blundered a major offensive.

How do you explain that the US sold weapons to Iran too?
Iran-Contras, Holly North. Do you remember anything?

So, we could suppose that the US supported the Mullah also.
