A much freer market than today has at times prevailed.  The biggest  
threat to a free market is the introduction of physical force into  
economics, i.e., government intrusion into the economy.   Markets and  
basic contract laws and laws against all types of force including  
fraud deal rather well with less than desirable aspects of human  
nature as far as economic concerns go.
