I haven't see Avatar either, but this plot sounds oh-so-familiar (and the
last paragraph is significant):

Patrick and I are movie fans, and "entertainment" is only one aspect of what
we find interesting about movies.  What movies reveal to us about the time
in which they were produced (by which director and from what country) is
what's often the more fascinating tale.
