I don't understand your question. Explanation for what? I don't find it especially troubling that neuroscience has yet to elucidate the mechanism of consciousness, if that's what you mean.

Glad to see that you understand I have no interest in positing the existence of anything non-material. 

I don't consider myself as "looking for ontological novelty". Just killing some spare time while trying to clear up what I see as some misconceptions about strong AI and the philosophy of mind.
