Or, you could try to limit somewhat radioactive pollution and accept the rest, 
especially for "once-for-all" projects... ;-) 


Another criticism with the Orion Project spaceships is that of the 
electromagnetic pulse (EMP) that would be generated with each "boost". At high 
enough altitudes, the EMP could blackout a whole hemisphere. While the ship 
itself could be hardened, amounting to putting faraday cages around all the 
electronics, most earthbound systems would still be vulnerable. Just thought I 
would throw that in.
