I find any analysis of a foreign policy or the causes of a war that says
it's about any one thing is too simplistic. There are inevitably many
things going on, and each country has a different set of priorities.
What matters to France is different than what matters to Jordan or
Canada.

I do enjoy the analyses of geopolitics or history that add a new
dimension to consider. For instance, the role of disease in
deciding the outcome of wars. Or the importance of transportation
hubs and of topography in migration, conflict, and prosperity.
