As a data point, Tegra 3 (to be released this year) is a quad core (with
12 GPU cores) will beat a first-gen 2 GHz Core 2 Duo (Core 2 Duo T 7200, 
Merom core, released 4.5 years ago).

The interesting part is that this is a mobile device, hence
easily passively cooled, and hence could scale to air-cooled WSI
clusters.
