But then you have the problem of getting stuff from the elevator's landing
point to its ultimate destination.  Though perhaps you could simply bring the
spaceship there after unloading its cargo, and haul it up that way.  (Or even,
do most of the growing at the base, and the only "space" part is drop-shipping
food to wherever.)
