I went to grad school with Dave Slowinski, who found seven of them.
I haven't seen him for years so I'm not sure why he stopped. My theories:
He's no longer at Cray, and therefore doesn't have access to
otherwise-unused supercomputers to run his code on. Or he can't
compete with GIMPS. Or seventeen years was enough and he's found
something else to do.

Meanwhile, 8675309 is prime. And apparently Jenny is too.
