Worship can be a lot of things. It can be communication, showing affection to “god”, saying “thank you”, sharing awe, dispelling fear.
I think it comes from a natural impulse, a natural overflow of feelings.
I don’t think Buddhism has to have Worship, though some kinds do.
I think that it’s one step beyond a “great esteem”. It goes jest a little further until it’s not based on objective facts anymore, emotional impulse takes over.
