Technically, in the law, you can be assaulted just by being looked at,
though probably that hasn't been in the courts for many years.  Battery is
when you get hit.

*assault - defined* as intentionally putting another person in reasonable
apprehension of an imminent harmful or offensive contact. Physical injury
is not required.  bill w
