Technical definitions aside, “assault rifle” seems to mean any normal rifle, which is black, with a plastic stock, versus a “normal rifle” with brassing and a wooden stock.

More specifically, these features seem to be “okay”:

- lever action
- .22
- BB gun
- Pellet gun
- Iron sight
- magazine 9 or less
- wooden stock
- brassing
- antiques

These features are “questionable”:

- .308
- bolt action
- magazine 10-20

These features seem to be “assault”:

- black
- plastic stick
- camo pattern
- scope
- magazine higher than 20
- fully automatic
- calibers abover .308
- side feeding
- hollow point

Please note that in the term “assault rifle” assault means “tactical”, or “reminiscent of military equipment”, rather than referring to to the crime “assault/battery”.
