Actually, there's enough of a chance that this election will go to
extra-legal routes that there's a good case to be made for the raw popular
vote mattering, even if technically the Electoral College would moot it in
many states.  (Part of that extra-legal is: the more the popular vote goes
to Biden, the less likely Trump's people are to detain Biden electors and
substitute their own.)
