I didn't know computer scientists could be Luddites. That's a new one on
me. :)

Bender appears to lean to the left politically, but that is not
relevant. Like all arguments, hers as a Computational Linguist should be
judged on their merits. You write if the idea that words obtain meanings
from their referents is some controversial idea she concocted to make foil
AI research, but it is Linguistics 101.
