It's a bit late to ask that, alas.  I can say that Leroy was fresher in 
my memory than he might be otherwise, because I recently had occasion to 
recall the source of the phrase "meaner than a junkyard dog" (and 
initially mis-assigned it to Jim of New York, with whom one messeth not 
around).
