About 1.5 trillion dollars.

If they couldn’t find alternative materials, the requisite rare earth materials could be stockpiled, since that stuff never spoils. A 1.5 trillion dollar company could stockpile a fifty year supply of every rare earth material as a speculative move, should the supplier nation decide it wants all its REEs.

>….The US military wouldn’t base their technology on any material in which it didn’t hold a fifty year stockpile…

The military has people whose job it is to think about these things, then arrange to not have it become a threat. The military also has arbitrarily large storage facilities where materials can be stockpiled and kept secure indefinitely. We can get what we need or already have it, or we can design around it.

Speculators have promoted the idea that China has a big important monopoly. I am not buying it, not for a minute.
