Imagine someone who would bet the Singularity will happen in the next four years, starting now. Let us call him S-alpha. One who would bet in the next eight years but more than four, let us call that guy an S-beta, and so on…spike
I am pondering how to introduce an orthogonal axis to the proposed terminology, with the additional axis denoting a metric of internal self-contradiction.
For instance: Adding power generation capacity is proposed by the S-alpha in a time frame which cannot be completed before the Singularity from the S-alpha’s own point of view. The S-lambda thinks there is plenty of time to add capacity, but doesn’t see the need for it. Well of course there is need for it, sheesh. Power is good, all of it.
Being between those absurd extremes, I, as an S-delta or S-epsilon, avoid these paradoxes and introduce my own fresh new paradox: power generation capacity must be added in such a way to maximize my profit by the time the Singularity makes profit irrelevant because of all the unimaginable wealth the Singularity creates and distributes to the fortunate few who it decides to not slay.
I am working that. Stand by.
