The rest of your narrative relies on this assumption. Based on this,
you declare that everyone either believes this will happen, believes
this won't, or is basically uninformed about it.
That leaves no room for the truth: that there are multiple possible
forms of the Singularity, and that there are potential Singularities
which will remain ambiguous for considerable time after they happen.
