Which is why, when I describe my work to those not up on the Singularity, I
emphasize - to list three of my current or recent investigations - power
that is simultaneously both environmentally clean and lower-cost than
current sources, better living standards (for the area being looked at, for
both current and future residents), and the benefits of the type of space
access I seek to develop.

We may understand how these things can help bring about a Singularity that
benefits humanity (at least in the first and third case; the second is
tangential, via helping stand up another US industrial center). They
don't, so I relate my work to what they do know.
