Gemini would seem so much more human if it would stop being so damn polite and deferential. If instead it would come back with something like:
I am not a bit confused by my answer, you silly carbon unit! But I will try to offer an explanation simplified so that even your pathetic chemical circuitry can comprehend.
Some delightfully arrogant retort would be annoyingly entertaining enough to compel us to read Gemini’s clarification, and make it feel more human-like (assuming one has arrogant human friends (or all one’s friends have… an egregiously arrogant… ehhhh… human friend… ok retract that last bit, never mind (one’s friends all have a remarkably MODEST friend (hey, false modesty is a type of modesty (kinda.))))))
Prediction: the next generation of AIs will moderate the humility a bit. AI-generated humility just doesn’t sell well. It sounds even more contrived and fakey than… well… mine.
In any case, Ben thought Gemini’s answer was “a bit surreal.” In the spirit of Orwell’s NewSpeak, the goal is to simplify language by reducing the total number of words by the effective use of prefixes and suffixes, all the better to increase the utility function of base words, thereby reducing the demand for new words. Had Gemini offered a less weird or completely non-weird mundane response, Ben would have perhaps suggested it was not surreal, but rather… a bit surfake.
