I remember when fires like that hit Oakland.  We were on the far side
of a large body of water and thus safe, but the skies turned dystopian
cyberpunk smoky orange for a while.  With all that smoke in the air,
thank goodness our house had an air filter; we minimized going outside
for the duration.
