This is a powerful argument for setting up AI data centers along the CA/NV state line, then using it as redundant emergency power supplies to Phoenix. In this scenario, life-saving power could be diverted from AI in CA to AC in AZ.

Imposter!

What have you done with John, and how much ransom do you want? We will pass the hat over on Extropolis and here. What payment form do AI virtual kidnappers demand for ransom? Tokens?

If I see a company buying up land along the 95 corridor north and west of Las Vegas, I will have a pretty good idea what they have in mind, and I will likely invest in that company. They could set up data centers out there, use most of it for that, then be ready to sell expensive high profit emergency or peak power to Phoenix, San Deigo, Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Las Vegas. They could import coal from neighboring Utah or from Wyoming since there are huge reserves of bituminous coal out there, as well as pentiful natural gas reserves.

The carbon burning plants can be built quickly, then over a few more years, they could build out the slower nuke plants. In Nevada there are plenty of places to stow nuclear waste. Anyone who doesn’t know what I mean, I do sincerely recommend a road trip across route 50 from Fallon to Ely Nevada. You can even do it virtually if you prefer. You will see lotta lotta this kind of thing:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Nevada/@39.5216239,-116.3691683,3a,75y,260.21h,63.86t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1s2SEwIUGxf84XVtEsX6As9A!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D26.143114797803833%26panoid%3D2SEwIUGxf84XVtEsX6As9A%26yaw%3D260.21127887850247!7i16384!8i8192!4m6!3m5!1s0x80990aa1f8deb471:0xcf47038aaafc95b3!8m2!3d38.8026097!4d-116.419389!16zL20vMDU5X2M!5m1!1e1?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDgxMS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

There is enough space in Nevada alone to stow all the nuclear waste we can possibly generate, which is something the pro-nuke greens have been pointing out for at least two decades.
