dirty but it's from sap and dust and road dirt - not bugs. I don't recall
the last time I scraped dead bugs off my windshield, but it used to be all
the time, now not....

My comment about bees: they have declined, but perhaps not as much as other
bugs have declined.

Consider an experience most of us have had at some point: there's some big
ugly galoot in the office, he has no friends, but you and he are the only
two on a business trip, nothing to do, suggest going to dinner (why not,
from his point of view, perhaps I am the big ugly galoot.) Come to find
out, he isn't a bad guy at all. Just misunderstood. Still ugly perhaps,
but hey, we boys are that way. After that trip, he's a friend. OK cool.

Cockroaches are that big ugly galoot. If ever there was a misunderstood
bug, it is that guy. I certainly agree they are ugly, but other than that,
they aren't bad guys. They eat our food, well hell, what's wrong with that?
We eat our food. Put your food away after the meal, wipe the counter, done.
Ants eat our food too, if we let them. Plenty of insects will eat our food,
but cockroaches are singled out, unfairly in my opinion. They don't carry
disease any more than any other bug. They don't get on dog turds, then get
on your picnic food, as flies do. OK then, fine, suppose they are just like
any other bug, still big ugly galoots but not really bad guys. They can't
sting you or bite you, they don't really make you sick any more than other
bugs do. They are just misunderstood.

Please, when is the last time... you saw a cockroach? Didn't they use to be
all over the damn place in the old days? So why aren't they now? What
happened? Did we hate them so much we tuned our chemical pesticides
specifically against cockroaches? And did we eventually just defeat them?
And if so, well congratu-freaking-lations humanity, you managed to
exterminate a perfectly harmless big ugly galoot who was really not a bad
guy at all, just misunderstood.
