If you are looking at it purely in terms of prepping, that I can help with. Ive been doing this a long time.

Your best option today are grid tie PV with battery backup like powerwall 3 with auto failover.
Most people think their standard grid tie solar panels will give them power when the mains goes down. it wont. the inverter has automatic shut-off for island protection so utility workers dont get fried by electricity form your panels going back into the grid.
Thus the need for a battery bank. (OR an EV can work the same +bonus of still having transport.
You also need auto failover so you dont have to throw a big switch everytime the grid goes down.

Next option is a generator. Ideally again with auto failover. So when the grid goes down, the genny kicks in and switch gear isolates you from the grid.

A kludged UPS setup is also an option for essential equipment like a fridge/freezer. but need to be big enough to handle inrush current when the compressor starts up.


Gas supply will also go down eventually, so bottle gas back and spare set of burner nozzles is needed for cooking.
Actually quite easy to set up a secondary bottle supply with regulator and switch over valve. Nozzles just unscrew and screw in teh replacements for LPG/butane etc.
Lvingin in teh sticks this is common for many around me. And a 47kg/100lb bottle can last a year or more just for cooking. But Heating will eat through it ! look at solid fuel log burners etc instead.

Water is electric pumped so thats going as well.
Dig a well. the easiest form is a water bored/dug thin pipe version. But really only works in sandy/loose soild and shallwo water table.
Hand Auger drilled is next easiest, again depends on strata and depth.
Power auger. same issues.
finally hire the biys with a big rig if you are on rock or very deep water table.
Add
Natural water course if available.
Rainwater collection, IBC tanks, a multistage filter system ending with reverse osmosis and you are golden !

Your biggest problem is food production. Thats a whole book !

and finally all that stuff you just in place to ensure you live is going to attract everyone else that did diddly squat to mitigate the problem.
they WILL kill you for it. So arm yourself to the teeth and best of all, make yourself invisible.

Ja.  I hadn’t thought of that, but it is a plausible way for AI to cut off the humans without cutting off itself.

  

Think it through carefully please.  Electricity goes off everywhere.  Now some of us have campers (I do) which have batteries and propane, so we have refrigeration for a while, and some of us have gasoline powered generators for camping (I do.)  We would have enough time to realize we might need to forage.  At some point one might wish to learn enough about edible plants to assess the viability of foraging to survive.  It is waaaaay the hell harder than one might imagine.  You really need to know your stuff if you want to forage for survival.  If you have a rifle and plenty of ammo, and the skill to use it, you will be OK until that ammo runs out, but foraging edible plants is one hell of a challenge.
