Yanks who are old enough may recall this is our second run at making
Daylight Savings Time permanent. It was tried once before in my early
teens. It lasted only one year, then was voted by congress back to
semiannual clock switching, by a larger margin than stopped it. I predict
the same will happen again for all the same reasons: sunrise time is more
important than sunset time. Switching the clocks makes sunrise time closer
to consistent, while exaggerating changes in sunset time. We don't like to
send the larvae to school in the dark: it is more dangerous. It has
disadvantages.

Insight: in the early 70s, electronic digital clocks were coming into
fashion. Most of us figured out how to set them. As the youngest in my
family, that was my job, twice a year, set all the clocks including the ones
in the cars. People without children sometimes just let it go, tried to
remember the clock was an hour off for nearly half the year.

Now, more clocks set themselves and stay accurate from radio signals (cool.)
But I predict that proles will hate DST in December and January, and that
congress will revive the clock setting by mid March 2027.
