That was an old-style battleship.  A modern battleship receives signals from satellites of incoming hypersonic missiles, then slips below the waves until the missiles pass over, unable to locate their target.  Then the targe resurfaces and fires counterstrikes.

Old style battleships are obsolete.  We already knew that.
