It's all just silly, and makes no sense. For one thing, even if you could thicken the atmosphere and somehow arrange for a strong enough magnetosphere (both for radiation protection), there's still the awkward problem of the low gravity causing big problems for anyone who stays there for more than a few months.

A much better solution (if one was needed, which I don't think it is) would be to marsiform terrans.

In practice, if anyone ever does live on Mars, they will almost certainly be non-biological, and the environment won't be a problem.
