Wishful thinking still a kind of thinking.

 

Something seems a little off about Jacob Coxon’s story, or perhaps it just feels that way.  This isn’t a direct rebuttal of what he is saying, because I think he is at least partly right.  But his dramatic resignation can be interpreted several ways, which others here might be able to see.  For instance… he could be thinking of starting his own company, dedicated to technologies aimed at preventing the utter destruction of humankind, with stock going public next week.  He could have a grudge against his company (that happens.)  He could be interested in slamming the door on possible AI competitors.  He could be a publicity hound (100 million + views on TwitterX.) 

 

Regarding the notion Jacob might want to start his own company, note that Anthropic spun off of OpenAI, for that reason: Dario thought Sam’s company wasn’t sufficiently safety oriented.
