In about 2020, a lot of elite universities stopped using the SAT and ACT scores as an admissions criteria.  They went on GPA, which is only a comparison of a student with other students.  GPA is less informative for scholastic aptitude than is the actual test where the S and the A are for literally scholastic aptitude.  Well, imagine that.

The problem is that the GPA based admissions technique over-rewards athletes, activists, economically disadvantaged, etc.  Result: the incoming classes have many students who just cannot compete with the traditional elite students.  The spread between the most talented students and the least talented expands.  The gap widens.  More students have no idea what is going on.  OK then, what do they do?  They rely on AI to help them solve the homework.  Then when it comes to the exam... they suck.

The professors recognize the problem but they don't have the solution.  I am all ears, if anyone has ideas.
