I second the use of amino acids as a way to
counteract the physical side of depression.
The two most useful are l-phenylalanine,
which boosts epinephrine and norepinephrine,
and l-tryptophan, which boosts seratonin.
The phenylalanine alone can make you feel
a little speedy, but the tryptophan smooths
it out. I take 500mg of each per day.
A choline-inositol supplement makes me
feel like my brain is superconducting, and
GABA is supposed to reduce anxiety.
