Personally I've never understood Second Life.  Graphically it looks like a
ten year old computer game, it runs like crap even on great hardware, and
the world, by and large, is devoid of life.  3D chatrooms strike me as a
solution in search of a problem.  If the goal is to communicate there are
many more efficient ways to do so that don't involve simulating a whole 3D
world.
